About Painting Tools
Free browser-based tools that help painters work from reference photos more effectively.
Why This Exists
When I'm working from a reference photo, I find myself doing the same things over and over — squinting to simplify values, trying to see the big shapes, checking proportions, figuring out the palette. These are things every painter does, and they shouldn't require expensive software or complicated setups.
So I built these tools. They run entirely in your browser. No sign-up, no uploads to a server, no subscription. Load an image, adjust the settings, and get what you need.
How It's Built
- 100% client-side. Your images never leave your device. Everything is processed in the browser using JavaScript and the Canvas API.
- No dependencies. No frameworks, no build tools, no external libraries. Just HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript.
- Free to use. All tools are free with no limits. No watermarks, no feature gates, no "upgrade to pro" pop-ups.
- Made for painters. Every feature is designed around how painters actually work — not how software engineers think they should work.
Who I Am
I'm Rodney Maiato — a developer and painter working primarily in oils. I build tools for artists and share my paintings at rodneymaiato.art. You can see what else I'm working on at rodneymaiato.dev.
Support the Project
All tools are free and always will be. If they help your painting, consider buying me a coffee to help keep development going.
